The Dixie Chicks are at it again...

I like Michelle Malkin's blog. It's worth reading on a regular basis. She's definitely a conservative (which appeals to me), but she is also generally fair in her observations. I happened to catch this on her blog:

Dixie Chicks Question Your Patriotism

Just goes to show you, you don't have to have common sense, intelligence, or shred of decency to be a celebrity.

Do you supposed Dixie Idiots singer Ms. Mains is somehow related to New Orleans Mayor C. Ray "Chocolate City" Nagin? Or maybe former Washington D.C. Mayor Marion "The bitch set me up" Barry?

I'd be interested to read that whole interview because I wonder what context that quote was taken out of. Personally, I like the Dixie Chicks. Just sayin'.

Well, I never said they couldn't sing. No doubting their talent... intelligence is another question.

I've read the whole interview... Mains' comment was very different from her partners' style, the other two women were much more "mainstream" in their commentary. If I can find the link again I'll send it to you.

Trust me... it's not taken out of context, she was very deliberatly commenting on the ridiculousness of National "Patriotism".

I read her whole interview, but I haven't read Michelle Malkin's article. Dixie Chick was an idiot, insulting the vast majority of her fans as if she could be a star without them.

Remember when "diva" meant narcissistic, high-maintenance bitch? Yeah, she's a diva.

I like their music, I think she's entitled to her opinions, and glad to live in a country where she can't be put out of business by the government for speaking her mind.

I think she showed poor business sense, especially as patriotic as the country fans are (me, included - I may have to learn Karaoke to sing "American Soldier" after I get out of Basic), but she does have a right to speak her piece. Anybody who doesn't like it is free to boycott her product. I agreed with her about Bush, I've liked his regime even less after you posted about Albright's visit to Thailand, but Main's timing when she spoke up in Europe at the beginning of the war was childish and insensitive.

I don't like what I've seen about her degrading patriotism, but again, I defend her right to vocalize her feelings. True freedom of speech means you have to tolerate your enemies getting to speak their minds as well...

Um... I'm in Thailand?

No really, lots of issues have been preventing me from blogging much in the couple months. I'm going to try and do it more from home now that work is easing up a bit.

Gypsy: I agree 100% that I love being from a country where an individual's right to voice their opinion and to protest is paramount. But Ms. Mains was way out of line in some of what she said. She wasn't voicing an opinion, she was belittling other's. I rank her right of there with Jane Fonda.

No matter what reason our soldiers are sent somewhere, it's our duty to support them, even if at the same time we are protesting the policies and policy makers that put them there. The soldiers are only doing their jobs.

She was out of line for questioning if other musicians out there were using the flag and ultra jingoistic imagery in their videos to make an extra buck instead of (as they claim) 'displays of patriotism'?

How is that out of line? At no point does she say anything about not supporting the troops what she questions is the use of them for profit. If it were for patriotism, the artists using the images should donate 100% of the profits to buy armor for this kids at war (or any number of the other items they should have been sent with to protect themselves and perform at their peak).

I for one was very disturbed by the ultra-patriotism and the lack of showing it led to way to much 'questioning of your morals or American pride' which is uncalled for. I am against the war, against the policies of the current government and I fully support an 18 year olds right to come back from a battle unscathed but to never be sent to battle for trumped up charges. /soapbox

Personally, I don't care for any country music for the most part but I am glad to live somewhere where these discussions can be held and that its protected by our troops, IF NOT OUR GOVERNMENT and the MEDIA.l
